Haein Shin is an education professional with experience in project and program implementation, management, Monitoring & Evaluation, training and content development for projects in Myanmar, India, Morocco, Saudi Arabia and 10 countries in sub-Saharan Africa over the course of the past ten years. She has been working in this capacity for projects focusing on: national education planning, early grade literacy, digital literacy, life skills and employment readiness, technology integration to teaching methods, environmental activism and peace education-- projects whose aim is to build toward sustainable and resilient communities.
At the Center for Sustainable Development, Haein develops and curates content for Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), including environment awareness, digital and financial literacy, life skills and job readiness, manual for literacy remediation. Using the contents as a basis, she has supported the management and led content design and training of ICT center managers to facilitate curriculum contents to over 500 trainees.
She has conducted Monitoring and Evaluation with over 350 participants in Myanmar's secondary schools to contribute to the needs assessment, situation analysis and process evaluation to guide project’s logical framework and interventions. In the same locale, she developed contents and trained education ministry officers on learner-centered approaches using technology, leading to the implementation of Virtual Reality teacher training modules for teachers to improve classroom teaching practices.
She has also devised data collection tools to contribute to UNESCO's regional report on 11 sub-Saharan African countries' youth perspectives on education and employment.
She recently joined the efforts of Columbia University's technical team contributing to the national education transformation plan of Paraguay’s education system in the diagnostic situation analysis stage and the roadmap policy formation stage; working in consultation with the education ministry, national and university experts, NGOs and civil society organizations.
Prior to the current role, Haein has worked at the Earth Institute to support education planning, literacy programs, content development, data analysis and cross-country research for 10 sub-Saharan African countries' project sites as well as Latin America and Asia.
Before joining the Earth Institute, she served as a Youth and Community Educator with the Peace Corps and led women's wellness initiatives in the Middle East as Director of Planning.
She received her Master of Arts in International Educational Development from Teachers College, Columbia University and her Bachelor of Arts in International Relations from the College of William and Mary.
