Haruna Tozawa

Research Assistant

Haruna is currently pursuing a Master of Public Health in Health Policy and Management at Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health. She specializes in child, youth, and family health in low and middle-income countries, with a special focus on global health and public policy. She holds a Bachelor of Law from Tohoku University in Japan, where she studied courses in International Relations, Modern Political Analysis, International Law, and Macroeconomics. During her undergraduate studies, she also spent nine months as an exchange student at the University of California, Los Angeles, focusing on Political Science and International Development Studies.

With diverse international work experience, she interned at the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in the Kyrgyz Republic Office, where she conducted post-impact monitoring and analysis. Driven by her passion for adolescent reproductive health, she interned at the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in the Dominican Republic Office, focusing on partnership establishment and the creation of project monitoring tools.

Prior to her graduate studies, Haruna worked at a manufacturing company in Japan, overseeing the Middle East and Central Asia region. She also contributed as an SDGs project enhancement advocate, promoting sustainable development goals and initiating programs for refugee support and best practices sharing.

At the Center for Sustainable Development, Haruna is working with Prof. Yanis Ben Amor on the “Artificial Intelligence & the Future of Work” initiative. After contributing to the planning and launching of the initiative, Haruna is the liaison with the Task Force on Artificial Intelligence & Health.
