The Millennium Villages Field Guide

Scaling sustainability through the cultivation and dissemination of knowledge.

The Millennium Villages Project (MVP) offers a bold, innovative model that identifies and scales solutions for integrated rural development to help low-resource communities lift themselves out of extreme poverty.

Located in 14 village clusters across 10 sub-Saharan African countries, MVP sites are full of rich information that can inform other site teams as well as global initiatives on frontline issues of sustainability and scalability.

The Millennium Villages Field Guide is an online tool that organizes lessons learned and best practices in the MVP. It is designed for development practitioners, offering techniques that address the unique challenges of setting up and managing a Millennium Village.

From quick wins to basic service delivery and systems strengthening, the Field Guide describes the MVP’s multi-sector approach through its scale-up and replication. Detailing the MVP’s strategies, tools, and interventions, the Field Guide focuses on common challenges and demonstrated, practical solutions.

The Field Guide’s purpose is threefold: to aid in planning a new MV, supporting national scale-up strategy, and implementing subsystems such as Community Health Workers. The Field Guide went live as a developing beta on September 24th.  Another round of development will be completed shortly. Upgrades include a discussion forum, video and map embedment functionality, and a personalized dashboard.

CGSD draws upon this framework of multi-sector operational experience to inform its policy advisory work for both regional and national leadership.
